  • Where are the driving packages? (ie. 10-lesson package)
I don't believe in X-lesson packages -- speaking from experience of having offered it in previous years, it often gives students a false sense of readiness to take on the road test. A lot of students think that after taking a course/package they'll be ready for the test, but in reality, people pick up and learn driving at very different rates and I believe it's best to go at it one lesson at a time.
  • Can I use my own car for the lesson?
Unfortunately no. For the safety of everyone involved, the driving school car will be used.
  • How should I pay for my lesson?
    I accept cash or e-transfer to jasmar.detorres@gmail.com.
  • Can I reserve the car for a stand-by road test? How much will it cost?
Yes, let me know which day(s) you intend to go to ICBC for a stand-by road test and we can plan for it. You'll be charged half the hourly rate while you wait + the regular car rental fee. For example, if you stand-by for 2.5 hours and then go do the test, it will be: $50 x 2.5 hours + $120 for the car rental = $125 + $120 = $245 (This example assumes a $100 hourly rate and $120 car rental fee, it may be different at the time of reading).
  • Does the car have 2 steering wheels?
Yes, the car has a full second set of controls which include the steering wheel, the brakes, and the accelerator.
  • How do I know I'm ready for the road test?
Ideally we would do a mock road test and see if you're able to get through it without any help from me and without committing any violations or dangerous actions.
  • Can I have someone else in the car with me? (ie. ride-alongs)
Yes -- whether it's your parent, child, or friend, it will cost $30 for each additional person for a maximum of 2 additional people (3 including you).
  • Do you teach outside of Richmond?
No, I typically do not -- it can be arranged but if you have a scheduled road test outside of the city, I would recommend looking for an instructor in that area.
  • I haven't had lessons with you but can I rent the car for the road test?
No, sorry. You need to at least do one lesson with me beforehand so I can make sure you're able to drive safely and won't put yourself, the ICBC examiner, and others road users in danger.
  • Can I be picked up and dropped off at different locations?
Yes, but please let me know at least a day in advance. If you let me know on the day of, it's still possible but the lesson may be shortened to accommodate for the new pick-up/drop-off location(s).
